Name: Claudia Donovan
Fandom: Warehouse 13
Timeline: The last episode of season four, right before she inhales the toxin from the orchid
Age: 20-21
Appearance: Claudia is tall-ish, thin, with hot red hair that always has a different colored strip in it that goes just past her chin. She's a bit punk rock, a bit goth, and a lot tech geek. Her clothes are always flattering, dark and ripped, and flatter her figure. Her face is thin, pale, with high cheek bones and make up that toes the line of too much.
Abilities: Claudia's only supernatural ability is that she can feel the birth of artifacts, or objects that contain great power. Beside that, though, she's possibly the best hacker in the world, as shown in her ability to track anything and anyone who even brushes the cyber world, and in that she hacked into the Warehouse, one of the most high-security, secret facilities in the world. She knows technology better than she knows herself, and can improve any piece of tech she gets her hands on, no matter how new or old, and she has an arsenal of items that she's invented herself. She also is steadily improving in her hand-to-hand and shooting, and can hold her own in most fights. She is an excellent guitar player and singer.
Personality: The most important thing to Claudia is her family, both by blood and by bond. She's risked her life more than once to save her brother and her best friends. She's loyal to a fault, and when she's betrayed, she breaks. Her bonds matter so much to her, and define so much of her, that it takes her a long time to trust anyone, but once she does, she'll be devoted for life, and beyond. This also means that she's not completely stable. She spent several months in self-inflicted institutionalization when she thought that she was having delusional visions of her supposed-dead brother. But once she realized that he was trying to contact her, she obsessively tracked her future-adoptive father Artie until she'd hacked into the Warehouse to force him to help her get her brother back. When her best friend, Steve Jinks, who is close enough to be a brother, dies on an under cover mission, she stops at nothing to bring him back to life, knowing that his death was unfair and premature. At great risk to herself and her career, she brings him back using an artifact, and then doesn't complain at all when the side-effect caused her to feel any pain that is inflicted on Steve's body.
She's sassy and sarcastic, and revels in teasing her family. The more she likes someone, the more incessant her teasing is. Though Artie always tells her to stop, he never does much about it, even when she quote Romeo and Juliet at him, substituting him and his girlfriend's names into it. She's overly involved in her family's lives, and likes to meddle in their relationships with other. She once told both Artie and his father that the other was dying so that they would talk to each other after thirty years of silence between them. She's hopeless in her own love life, though, and finds herself at a loss for words around boys, especially shirtless college wrestlers, or cute hardware store clerks. Artie once told her to "be herself" on a date, and she came back telling him that that was the worst advice she could have been given. She's under the impression that she's awkward around new people, but this rarely seems to be the case unless she thinks about it. She's talkative, witty, funny, and can talk anyone's ear off about scifi, music, the Warehouse, and especially technology. When she is herself without thinking about it, she's completely charming, even if she doesn't believe in herself at all in any field besides tech.
She desperately wants to impress her family, to gain their approval. She has her comfort zone, but pushing herself outside of it is painful and difficult for her. She always needs that extra push, and is much, much happier staying inside. She wants to be an agent, and to be on par with Myka and Pete, the Secret Service agents at the Warehouse, but she refuses to go to college, saying that it will be boring (which is true, since she is already the head of her field, and that's what she'd probably go for). Her intellect makes her unable to relate to people her own age unless they are also incredibly intelligent, but when they are, she can't resist them. She once thought that her boyfriend, Todd, and her had nothing in common, until she found out that he was in the witness protection program and was actually a very advanced computer programmer who had gotten on the bad side of the mafia. After she knew that, though, she was all over him.
When she is in her zone, though, she doesn't let rules stop her, even if her career is on the line. She breaks all of Artie's rules, enhancing and creating new devices for the Warehouse team, and he eventually admits that everything she's done is much better than what they had before. She desperately loves her job and her coworkers, and works there for only room and board, but she doesn't ask for much more, since it's all she needs. Her job is challenging enough not to bore her, and it's probably the only job out there that would fit the bill. Their confidence in her abilities allow her to do a lot that couldn't have been done without her.
She also has a darker side, the side that will fight at all costs to get what she wants. She will go to any lengths to save her brother and her family, even if it means that others may be hurt in the process. Usually, she's bright and cheery, but when this side takes over, there's a very obvious change and she becomes obsessive, not even bothering to take care of herself.
History: Claudia's parents died when she was very young and was raised by her older brother, Joshua. They lived relatively quiet lives until Joshua met Artie who convinced him to experiment with teleportation. He disappeared during the experimentation, though, leaving her an orphan. Several years later, she started experiencing visions of her brother. She thought that she was going insane with grief and checked herself into an institution where she experienced abuse from one of her doctors which is her worst fear years later. After four months in the institute, she realized that her visions were actually Joshua trying to contact her from some kind of interdimensional limbo. She dedicated herself to finding Artie, hacking into the Warehouse's mainframe with her signature "KNOCK KNOCK."
She kidnapped Artie using her own invention, Supercharged Handcuffs, and forced him to help her get her brother back. He soon realized that she wasn't insane, and helped her voluntarily, but her connection to her brother meant that every time they tried to reach him, it drained more and more of her life. They found their way into the limbo and brought him back, leaving all of them mostly unharmed.
On returning to the Warehouse, Artie was given an ultimatum: to "deal with" Claudia, or hire her. He chose the latter, offering to hire her which she agreed to immediately, not having anywhere else to go, nor having any friends outside of her brother. At first she was just doing inventory and menial tasks, which she found terribly boring and she started tinkering, enhancing their Farnsworth communicators, Tesla guns, and mainframe. Over the next two years, she became more and more integrated into the Warehouse, soon calling the other agents her family.
In her second year there, she started working as an assistant agent, and by her third year worked as a full agent alongside her partner, Steve Jinks, who also quickly becomes her best friend. When Mrs. Fredric, the Warehouse's caretaker, almost died, Claudia was told that her "purpose" in the Warehouse is to succeed Mrs. Fredric, which terrifies her, because of the responsibility that goes along with it, and because it means that she will outlive her family. She asked Artie to not make her do it, and he promised never to put her in the position where something like that is done against her will, again.
She bonded with the Warehouse family throughout the show, but especially when she and Myka were assigned to a mission together after Pete was affected by a powerful mind-altering artifact. She got to be an assistant agent, but spent half of the time either being too shy and nervous to talk to the big, hot college wrestlers, or being far too direct and demanding. Though, in the end, that was what allowed her and Myka to discover what was causing the wrestlers' deaths by spontaneous combustion. Her quick mind got her out of that situation, and many others.
At the end of her second year there, she left after she and the others suspected her of being compromised, that MacPherson had somehow taken control of her mind to steal artifacts from the Warehosue. She fled to Switzerland where her brother was, but discovered that MacPherson had beaten her there, and was using her brother to get a very dangerous chemical. Artie came after her, not believing that it was her, and unable to let her leave, since MacPherson could easily overpower her with his amassed artifacts.
During a very dangerous mission her BFFWYLION (best friend forever whether you like it or not), Steve, was killed while being undercover. After the culprit was killed, she stopped at nothing to bring him back, finding an artifact that could keep someone alive no matter how many times they were killed, but at the price of her experiencing all the pain which was inflicted on him. She didn't care, though, even after they figured out that that was the downside to the artifact, and only helped Steve find an alternative at his insistence. Then, she convinced him to make amends with his mother, which caused his separation from the artifact and gave him his own heart back.
The moment that I am taking her from is the last episode that's out, after the team found that Artie's personality had been split because of an artifact he used to save the world from utter despair. Claudia and Steve were dispatched to find an Orchid which could release a disease that would wipe out a third of the world's population if released, and Artie's alter-ego was after it. They found it, but only a moment before Artie, who stopped time to steal it from them. The team barely got it from him in time, and Claudia decided that the only way to stop him was to make his vision come true and stab him with the very knife he had just stolen from a museum in Prague. She stabbed her father figure to save the world, but the Orchid activated anyway and she inhales the toxin, but she'll be in the Facility the second before she does.
Roleplay Sample - Log: It was the only way to save him. She knew that. Taking a deep breath, she took one last look at herself before shutting the mirror in the car. It's the perfect mix of professional and slutty, just right to get her in to the building and past the guard. She had to save him. What was the point of the Warehouse without Steve? Something twisted her heart and she closed her eyes for a moment, but when she opened them, they were hard, forcing whatever stupid tears were threatening to fall back into their ducts. Not today. She won't cry for him today, because he won't be dead for long. The metronome is next to her on the seat, along with a few Claudia Originals to get the job done.
There. The agent was in. It's the right place. She slipped out of the seat, adjusted her skirt, grabbed her stack of useless papers, and walked confidently to to the guard booth. This was it. He won't be dead.
Roleplay Sample - Journal: And... [There's a jolt of electricity, blinding white, and then a grinning new face] There we go. That's a good little blackberry. Not so bad, was it? Not with your 2005-era build and Farnsworth-like connection. And now you're much better. [She pats it, leaning back]
Hello, Facility, which is what everyone seems to call you. Looks like we've got a psycho AI, some crazier tenants, and a lot of hero complexes. How's that working out for you? Not so great, it seems. But never fear! Claudia is here. I know, I know, new guy, right? I think I got it. I'm gonna go down to your engineering and check it out, see if I can hack into your lady overlord.
Live long and prosper, fellow inmates. [She flashes the Spock symbol and cuts the feed]
This game includes horrible mental and physical torture of your character. After reading the rules/faq for clarification, how do you expect your character to handle this and continue to function? Claudia has already been through things very similar to what will happen to her in the Facility, experiencing mental and physical pain, and sometimes very akin to torture. She has lost people close to her, and knows how to deal with that as well, though she isn't very good with it. She will never stop trying to stop the pain and torture, and won't deal with death very well, but she can handle it, and it won't break her easily.
Questions? Comments? Crazed and creative statements? Those go here.
Claudia will inevitably want to try and fix Val, so if she gets in, I'll have to talk to the mods about how that would go down. Also, I know that in F1 they were shocked when messing with the technology; is that the same in the station? What would she have access to alter, the pods, the engines, etc? Thanks!
